Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Fisheries and Fisheries will sell 105 fishing boats confiscated from Tamil Nadu fishermean over the years. The firm has already put an advertisement in a local newspaper inviting bidders to an auction. The ad indicated that 65 boats will be auctioned on February 7 in Karaignagar, Jaffna district. On February 8, 5 vessels docked in Kangesanthurai, Jaffna district, 24 vessels docked in Kiranchi, Killinoi district, 9 vessels docked in Thalaimannar, Mannar district, on February 10, and 2 vessels docked in Kalpitiya, Puttalam district, on February 11. The ship will be auctioned off. There will be a total of 105 boats up for sale. The Sri Lankan government would sell fishing vessels at scrap prices, according to officials from Tamil Nadu’s Ministry of Fisheries, because most of the vessels were corroded owing to poor maintenance throughout the detention period.
